Sugarcubes: Birthday


Un personaje de la novela de Nick Hornby Alta Fidelidad dice que las personas no se deberían definir por lo que hacen, sino por sus gustos. Si alguien ha alcanzado ese curioso privilegio, es John Peel, el discjockey de la BBC conocido por prestar oídos a estilos y bandas que después serían aplaudidos por la crítica (y a veces hasta por el público). Birthday era una canción demasiado rara para su época (es de 1987), pero igual fue elegida canción del año por los oyentes del programa de Peel.
Beck cuenta en una entrevista que la escuchó por primera vez en una radio universitaria y que no se parecía a nada de lo que hasta entonces conocía.
Birthday es el primer éxito internacional de Bjork.
